     The Bird Sings
The bird sings
because he's free
and he can choose who
he wants to be.
No one can tell him
who he is or should be
and he can fly as far
as he can see.
He sings with
a resounding trill
that can be heard
from every hill
for that fine-feathered bird
hasn't had his fill.
The dream in his heart
is longed for still.
But the bird
knows he is free.
And he can decide where
he wants to be.
His wings are preened
with agility
And what his mind
wills him to do
is what will be;
He can fly high
or he can fly low.
That bird can go
where he wants to go.
He makes no apology
as he sings from
every crest and tree.
And he sings
because he can see.
that no one can tell him
what he is
or should be.
He sings because
his soul is free,
and he can be all
he wants to be.
