We did it in the darkness
beneath the starlight.
We did it when the sun
was shining high and bright.
We did it in the tall grass.
We did it in the bed.
We did it in the car
where the country road led.
We did it with rhythm
to our heart's gladdening.
We did it with fire
when our yearning
was maddening.
We did it with abandon,
way back then,
and I'm hoping that
this Valentine's Day,
we'll do it again.
